Scientific Evidence Proves That Home Teeth Whitening Products Are Efficient

According to an international, non-profit Cochrane Collaboration research – home teeth whitening products have been proven to be efficient in teeth whitening. The research confirmed that many home teeth whitening products have short-term effects in whitening the teeth; however, the research didn’t analyze the long-term effect of the whitening products.

The Cochrane – research was based on 25 researches that were made to analyze the efficiency of different kind of teeth whitening products, including over-the–counter products and products from the dentist office.

All of the evaluated products included carbamide or hydrogen peroxide as a whitening agent. These agents can be found in many whitening products, such as in whitening pens and mouth tray whitenings. The study didn’t analyze whitening toothpastes.

This research offers good news to many people around the world who use whitening products to have a brighter, whiter smile. Though there are many different types of whitening products available, it is good to know that the two different kind of whitening solutions give whiter teeth: bleaching and non-bleaching products.

The difference between two whitening products:

Bleaching products: Teeth bleaching products actually whiten teeth and change the natural color. These whitening products contain hydrogen peroxide, which is meant to remove intrinsic and extrinsic stains from the teeth. Intrinsic stains are located in the porous of the tooth and they are difficult to reach. Extrinsic stains emerge to the surface of the teeth.

Non-Bleaching products: Non-bleaching teeth whitening products are designed only to work on surface stains and they do not change the natural color of the teeth or reach the intrinsic stains. People who are sensitive to bleaching products may find it useful to try non-bleaching products and products where the concentration is low.

The evidence shows that teeth whitening is safe. According to the data of American Dental Association, a teeth whitening including 35 per cent of carbamide peroxide (quite standard amount in teeth whitening products) is safe and effective. There may be some side effects such as sensitivity in the gums, which can lead to an irritation of gums. These side effects are normally only temporary and end as soon as the treatment is done. Also reducing the treatment time or using lower concentration can help stopping the sensitivity and irritation.

There are many different types of teeth whitening products available that are safe and effective, so it’s a good time to get a whiter smile. Many think it helps to try several products before choosing the one that suits best for your teeth.
